Each local unit is cordially invited to the DCC PTA’s End of Year Tips for Success Lunch and Learn immediately following the General Meeting on January 17, 2012.

The Lunch and Learn will begin at Noon and end by 2:00 PM. Your members will learn important information and strategies for completing another great year by getting tips on these six important topics:

• Mid-year Budget Review
  
• Nominating Committee elections
  
• Awards preparations
  
• Procedure Books updates
  
• Conducting Elections
  
• Planning for and conducting the Audit or Financial Review

Would you like to help children
improve their reading skills?

Becoming a Reading Volunteer is very simple. You only need to attend an interesting and informative, one-time class. The class is 1½ hours long and will give you some good tips on working with students of all ages. Upon completing this class, you may volunteer in the school of your choice or we can help you choose a school.

The next set of classes will be held in the DCPS School Board Building at 1701 Prudential Drive:

All classes begin at 1:00 p.m. and end by 2:30 p.m.

National PTA training will be offered to Northeast Florida citizens to help them become better advocates. We will also be sharing information about the Common Core State Standards Initative that will soon be impacting our Florida students.

Indenties Issues, Creates Issue Strategies, Builds Coalitions, How to meet with Decision Makers, and working with Media.

This training is perfect for the PTA Leadership / Programs VPs and other who would would like a more indepth training on being a grassroot advocate. It will provide the big picture view of how to be better advocates for our children. It will also allow the opportunity for those individuals who would like to train others in grassroots advocacy to become part of the DCC PTA iAdvocate Trainers Committee.

February IS “Contact your State Legislator” Month.

In response to requests for assistance from local units about how to contact their state legislator, County Council is following up on the roundtable discussions with a letter writing campaign.

DCC will host a February letter writing campaign. A packet of ready to use materials was sent to your local unit through school mail the last week of January to assist you with your “Contact your State Legislator” program. Local units participating will be recognized at the P & P luncheon in May.

Tax Help for PTAs – IRS Form 990

Need 990 Help? Don’t have a computer or internet access? Large or small, PTAs must file some version of Form 990 with the IRS EACH YEAR to comply with Federal Regulations. These special sessions are for those who have not filed the 2009 tax return. Participants will be able to produce and review a 990.
