			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><center><strong>Do the following as a PTA sponsored project and you are eligible for the Humanitarian Award!</strong></center></p>
<p>Join HandsOn Jacksonville as we celebrate Family Volunteer Day,<br />
<strong>Saturday, November 21st 2009</strong>.</p>
<p>We welcome volunteers from of all ages to join us on this day as we prepare books, toys and backpacks to be distributed to hundreds of children and non-profits throughout Jacksonville.</p>
<p>Volunteers can rotate from our various stations during the event and assist with stuffing backpacks, taking inventory of our gifts and matching to our gift requests, and wrapping presents.</p>
<p>Volunteer activities for children will include making peace bracelets, creating &#8216;lights out&#8217; light switch plates, coloring &#8217;send a smile&#8217; pages to include with gifts, and more!</p>
<p>Shifts are available for volunteers to sign up for, however times are flexible:</p>
<p>9 am to noon     /        Noon &#8211; 3 pm</p>

<p>November is Military Families Month!</p>
<p>How sure are you that your student population is without military families?  Aside from the obvious, Jacksonville have Coast Guard and Reservist Families living here. </p>
<p>Support your school community with childrens&#8217; books either for the classroom or the school media center focused on those special needs of military children.   Download suggested titles <a href='http://dccpta.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/BooksforMilitaryChildren.pdf'>HERE</a>.</p>

<p>Greeting Cards for the Troops / Adopt a Senior Center</p>
<p>The teacher supply depot has THOUSANDS of holiday greeting cards just waiting for you!  Create a program for students to recognize the military, seniors, or whomever in your community you feel would benefit from just a little note of &#8216;you are special&#8217;.  Next Teacher Supply Depot give away is 12/3/09  from 3pm &#8211; 6pm.</p>

<p>Collect Cellphones, Eyeglasses, Soda Can Tabs</p>
<p>Start a collection and have your DCC rep drop off the donation at the next meeting.  Cellphones are refurbished and given to Women&#8217;s Shelters; Eyeglasses are sent to 3rd world countries; Soda Can Tabs are given to The Ronald McDonald House.</p>

<p>Souper Bowl &#8211; food collect for AFTER the Holidays</p>
<p>It&#8217;s Simple &#8211; Assist your student in organizing a collection of money or canned foods to help those in need.  Souper Bowl of Caring will provide free resource materials to help you carry out your collection.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s Local &#8211; Student develop a stronger connection totheir community by learning about local needs and giving 100% of their donations to the charity of THEIR choice.  These charities should provide shelter to the homeless, food to the hungry, and compassion to those in need.</p>
<p>Step 1 &#8211; Register ONLINE at <a href=http://www.souperbowl.org target=new>http://www.souperbowl.org</a> to get free promotional materials<br />
Step 2 &#8211; Collect money or canned goods January 17 &#8211; February 7, 2010<br />
Step 3 &#8211; Report your results to the Souper Bowl of Caring so we can add it to the national total.<br />
Step 4 &#8211; Donate 100% of your collection to the charity of your choice.</p>
